My Path to Becoming a Therapist in Madison, WI

During my undergraduate career at UW–Madison, I became deeply passionate about self-advocacy, empowerment, and supporting individuals by working alongside them. I majored in Legal Studies and Criminal Justice with an initial plan to attend law school.

During my senior year, I reflected on where I saw myself long-term and what career would feel genuinely fulfilling. I realized that what drew me to the idea of becoming a lawyer wasn’t the legal system, but the collaborative, trusting client-counselor relationship. This led me to completely shift my career path.

Suddenly, I recognized the core values of counseling aligned closely with who I am and who I am striving to become. I applied to graduate school to become a therapist.

A Bit About Me: My Experience with Life Transitions

While growing up, I moved frequently. Suddenly, my life changed every few years as my family relocated. This shaped me in many ways. For exampled, I learned how to be both an observer and a listener.

Being the “new kid” meant learning how to read the room, attune to others, and quickly build friendships with people I just met. This naturally drew me toward supporting others as they navigate their own life transitions.

Consequently, I understand that sometimes home is less about a physical place and more about a feeling. I am passionate about helping people build a sense of internal safety and security, even when external circumstances are changing or feel uncertain.

My Current Approach to Therapy

For these reasons, I am passionate about working with individuals from all walks of life and value accessible mental health care. I’m committed to supporting individuals who experience marginalization and stigmatization. Everyone deserves to be heard and supported.

I have worked with youth experiencing incarceration and adults involved in community mental health programs. These experiences furthered my desire to provide accessible, trauma-informed therapy to those who face systemic barriers to care.

I’m open to working with clients of any age and background, and I strive to meet people where they are with curiosity, compassion, and respect.

As a second-year UW–Madison graduate student in the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program, I am committed to ongoing growth. I prioritize building a career that is deeply aligned with my values. My goal is to create a space where people are seen for who they truly are, and supported during challenges and successes.
