Savannah Buttermore, Counseling Intern

Savannah is a second-year Master’s student in the Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Prior to joining HEART Counseling, Savannah completed two internships where she honed her clinical experience. Savannah interned at a residential treatment program for youth who have been involved with the justice system as an alternative to incarceration. There, she worked closely with the youth to build rapport and also co-facilitated DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) groups. Savannah also interned at a community mental health program, where she provided individuals with severe and persistent mental illness with comprehensive community services. In this role, Savannah provided case management, medication management, assessment, and treatment planning.
Who Savannah Sees
Savannah works with kids (ages 6+), teens, young adults, and adults. She is particularly passionate about working with high school aged teens and college-aged young adults experiencing major life events or transitions, and supporting those who have experienced trauma or upsetting events. Savannah can also help with navigating anxiety, depression, and school struggles. She has a particular interest in working with youth who have moved frequently.
How Savannah Works
As she continues to develop her therapeutic approach, Savannah utilizes CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Person Centered Therapy, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing. While at HEART Counseling she is learning more about EMDR, Exposure Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS or “parts work”).
