Sam Egelhoff, LMFT

Psychotherapist and AAMFT Clinical Fellow & Approved Supervisor

I believe that therapy is a collaborative process.

You are the expert on yourself; I am just here to walk side-by-side with you on the path towards however you envision your healing journey and your most optimal self. If your goals are to go deeper, explore patterns, process emotions, build empowerment, discover your strengths, and understand the “why,” we will work well together. My personal goal for each client is to create an environment of unconditional positive regard – to allow you a safe space to process, grow, and feel seen.

We change our world by reaching out to each other, connecting one by one. Like many therapists, my passion for helping others was sparked by the care I received during my own healing journey.

It would be my privilege to bear witness to your challenges and struggles, but also to your strengths and triumphs. I look forward to meeting you.

Hands making a heart shape in front of a rainbow; LGBTQIA+ therapist in Madison, WI

My specialty is in Systemic Therapy – meaning I look at all aspects and pieces of your life, including family patterns, systems of oppression, physical health and chronic illnesses, generational trauma, career, schooling, childhood experiences, and more.

Because of this wide lens, I welcome all ages, all identities, and all issues. I focus on Integrative techniques, to tailor the therapeutic experience to what you need, where you’re at, and how you expect to move towards your goals. I draw on theoretical approaches including Narrative, Experiential, ACT, Person-Centered, and CBT and approach all issues with a trauma-informed and grief/loss lens.

I have the most experience with the LGBTQIA+ population, elderly and death-impacted individuals/families, couples, young adults/adolescents, and individuals in transitional and developmental lifespan periods. I am trained in Gottman Level 1 and 2, as well as offer Prepare/Enrich premarital sessions.
