Teletherapy in WI
We offer remote therapy throughout WI to children, teens and adults.
Telepsychology refers to providing psychotherapy services remotely using telecommunications technologies, such as video conferencing or telephone. One of the benefits of telepsychology is that the client and clinician can engage in services without being in the same physical location.
Some benefits to telepsychology counseling are:
- The ability to expand your choice of service provider.
- More convenient counseling options including location, time, no driving, etc.
- Reduces the overall cost and time of therapy due to not having to drive to and from an office.
- Increased availability of services to homebound clients, clients with limited mobility, and clients without convenient transportation options.
- Reduces the risks posed by COVID-19.
Connection: The energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.
~ Brené Brown
We use a secure HIPAA compliant platform for telepsychology sessions.
To engage in telepsychology at HEART Counseling, you will be sent a link for our secure, HIPAA compliant video sessions via Simple Practice prior to your appointment via email and/or text message. You are expected to be in a private location in Wisconsin where you can speak openly without being overheard or interrupted by others to protect your own confidentiality.
The same fee rates will apply for telepsychology as apply for in-person psychotherapy. However, insurance or other managed care providers may not cover sessions that are conducted via telecommunication. Please contact your insurance company prior to our engaging in telepsychology sessions in order to determine whether these sessions will be covered.
Some limitations to telepsychology include, but are not limited to:
- Risks to confidentiality, such as the potential for other people to overhear sessions if you are not in a private location.
- Due to technology limitations, your therapist may not hear all of what you are saying and may need to ask you to repeat things.
- Technology might fail before or during the telepsychology session.
- Your therapist often cannot fully see you, your body language, or your non-verbal reactions to what is being discussed.
- Although every effort is made to reduce confidentiality breaches, breaches may occur for various reasons.
- Insurance or payor rules may change which affects coverage for these services.
Reimbursement for telehealth services is also determined by your insurance company and applicable law.
