Parenting
As trauma specialists we know that becoming a parent often causes us to face our own childhood wounds and see things in ourselves that we didn’t realize were there. Maybe you are trying to parent without ever having an example of a good parent or trying to parent after the death of your own parent.
Maybe you knew exactly what kind of a parent you wanted to be, but now that you’re out there actually trying to do it, it’s much harder than you thought. You know that you want more and different for your child(ren), so why is it so hard?
If you survived something traumatic in your childhood – from physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse or neglect, to living in poverty, to not having a reliable adult who was really there for YOU, we see you and we understand. It can make parenting SO. HARD.
You are not alone in this experience, and we can help.
Children do not need us to shape them. They need us to respond to who they are.
~ Naomi Aldort
You deserve help and support to be the best version of yourself that you can be.
But we also know that sometimes we do things because they are good for our kids or our family. We work from a family systems model which says that when one member of the family makes changes, it affects the rest of the family system. If you want to help yourself as well as your children and family, therapy is the place to go.
