Our brains and nervous systems are absolutely amazing, complicated, smart and adaptive, and their whole purpose is to keep us alive and safe.

But sometimes our brains can make our lives difficult by going into a hyper-aroused state (anxiety), even when there isn’t actually a threat of danger. Or by hijacking our emotions, causing an intense reaction to get stuck in our nervous system (trauma response). Or by becoming so overwhelmed that it makes us shut down (depression). These responses can make it difficult to function in our daily lives and impact our relationships.
