J. Elise Reichle, MSW Intern
pronouns: she/her/hers
Elise is a second year graduate student in the Master of Social Work (MSW) program at Rutgers University School of Social Work with a clinical specialization.
Prior to joining HEART Counseling, Elise previously completed an internship at a community college where she provided holistic support to students facing personal and academic challenges. In this role, Elise coached students on skills such as time management, planning, organization, and study skills. She also facilitated workshops on these topics as well as stress management and test anxiety. True to social work values, Elise gained experience identifying and helping students access appropriate resources, as well as advocating to promote equitable access to education.
As a psychology major at the University of Virginia, Elise was a research assistant at the Virginia Cognitive Aging Project (VCAP). There, she administered cognitive assessments and analyzed data to contribute to the understanding of COVID-19, social isolation, and cognitive functioning in older adults.
With a minor in pre-professional architecture, Elise is also interested in how art, community, and our environments shape our wellbeing.
Why Asking for Help Matters
Elise says, “Throughout my life, I’ve had several opportunities to seek out mental health support. However, when we’re struggling, the idea of asking for help can feel like running a marathon you never trained for. It seems practically impossible.
My own experiences taught me something important. Having an approachable, accepting person on the other side can make that marathon feel… maybe still a half-marathon, but a doable one.”

Elise’s Approach to Therapy
Elise wants her clients to feel seen, heard, understood, and supported. She uses active listening, compassion, and understanding to help clients navigate life and mental health issues. As a social worker, Elise takes a strengths-based, holistic approach to her work and aims to meet each client where they are. She values creating a non-judgmental space where clients can be their genuine selves. Elise believes that the relationship between a client and therapist, or, the therapeutic relationship, is what fosters healing and growth.
EliseCElise’s Clinical Social Work Treatment Modalities
During the 2025-26 academic year, Elise will be supervised by Dr. Erin Neill, LCSW and will learn about several of the approaches Dr. Neill and HEART Counseling utilize including: CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and IFS (Internal Family Systems, or “parts work”).
Elise is excited to finish her masters of social work (MSW) degree in August 2026 and then continuing to work towards becoming a licensed clinical social worker.

“As someone who grew up in a culturally and politically polarized environment, I value creating a non-judgmental safe space where clients can be their genuine selves. Therapy, to me, is about relationships that foster healing and growth — not just problem-solving. … My background includes supporting diverse populations, and I am especially interested in how art, community, and environments shape wellbeing.”
